RIB crew rescued following flare alert

Shroeham RNLI after the RIB rescue

RNLI lifeboat crews from Shoreham, West Sussex, rescued two people onboard a broken-down Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) after spotting a flare.

Shoreham’s all-weather and inshore lifeboats launched one Saturday afternoon in September following a report of a red distress flare seen off Worthing.

On route, the all-weather lifeboat crew spotted the flare and located a broken down rib with two people on board. They had been fishing southwest of Worthing Pier. It took the crew and boat safety ashore at West Worthing.

The call-out was one of four undertaken during a busy weekend. The crew also assisted a becalmed and disabled yacht and three people cut off by the tide. It also assisted in a missing man inquiry.
