Flares help RNLI rescuers save Devon fishermen

Flares have helped RNLI rescuers save three fishermen in Devon after their boat sank.

Coastguards received a Mayday call from the fishermen near Berry Head, one evening in April after their boat sank quickly.

RNLI crews from Torbay and Exmouth attended and a rescue helicopter assisted.

The Exmouth crew picked up the three fishermen, who were cold, but unhurt, and brought them to Brixham Harbour.

An Exmouth RNLI spokesperson says having safety equipment made a big difference. The flares could be seen from a distance and contributed to a quick rescue. The image of Torbay RNLI lifeboats is credit of RNLI and Nick Leach.
