Flares were fired as three RNLI crew members, who fell into the water from a lifeboat, were rescued by colleagues.

The incident happened as Blyth RNLI was searching for a missing person at Seaton Sluice, near Whitley Bay, Northumberland, one night in October.

All three crew in the D-class inshore vessel were swept overboard by a wave. They were later rescued by RNLI Blyth’s Atlantic 85 lifeboat crew. The lifeboat was retrieved by the RNLI’s Tynemouth crew.
