Two men have been rescued in Queensland, Australia, after activating a flare when their jet-ski broke down.
Their correct use of safety equipment can make all the difference in averting tragedy, say police.
The pair got into trouble while jet-skiing in Bramble Bay one afternoon in October, Water Police Brisbane reported. Queensland Police’s Polair helicopter captured the dramatic effort on video.
Many people contacted the emergency services after seeing the flare around one kilometre off the Woody Point coast.
The Water police and Polair quickly spotted the jet-skiers and brought them safely back to the coast.
Senior Sergeant David Edden, of Water Police Brisbane, says, “The correct use of safety equipment can be the difference between a safe trip and tragedy. In this case, the distress signal alerted authorities and police were able to work quickly to recuse the men and their vessel before dark.”
Police thanked all those who reported the flares.
