Flares aid boater rescue on Georgian Bay

The Coast Guard ship Cape Providence

Flares aided the rescue of a boater in Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canada, whose vessel ran out of fuel.

Social media posters reported that flares were used to help the crew of the Coast Guard ship Cape Providence reach the boat, one evening in September.

A friend contacted the Coast Guard after the boater was late. The vessel was located by a search and rescue team using a CC-130-J Hercules aircraft from 8 Wing Trenton.

The boat was towed back to Collingwood Harbour.
