Crew of sinking vessel rescued after firing flare

Two Mexicans on board a sinking boat have been recused off San Diego by US Coast Guards after firing a flare

Two Mexicans on board a sinking boat have been recused off San Diego by US Coast Guards after firing a flare.

Joint Harbor Command Center personnel received multiple 911 reports of a vessel taking on water and sinking eight miles west of San Diego, one day in July.

Sector San Diego issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched units from Air Station San Diego and Station San Diego. A Navy warship and San Diego lifeguards also assisted.

The two crew were picked up and transported to Shelter Island, where they were met by Imperial Beach Border Patrol agents who later cleared them.

The Station San Diego boat crew members pumped water from the vessel but could not find the source of the flooding.
