WesCom Signal and Rescue has recalled two lots of Aurora Orange Handsmokes in Australia as a precaution.
This is because a small percentage of LOT 060 and LOT 061 of the Aurora Orange Handsmoke, supplied between October and November 2020, did not operate correctly.
The malfunction was identified during a training exercise. No injuries have been reported, however, WesCom decided to remove the affected LOT numbers from circulation and replace them free of charge.
In the affected batches there is a small possibility that the smoke can vent from the bottom of the handle instead of the top, due to over-pressure in the ignition train. This animation shows the issue.
The items were sold as Single Handsmokes and in the Inshore Distress Flare Kit and in WA Offshore kits sold in Australia in October and November 2020.
The Wescom team is contacting all distributors and dealers across Australia to notify them of the problem and rectify it.
