Jet-skiers fire flares in 13 festive rescues in South Africa

A distress flare alerted rescuers to jet-skiers in trouble in South Africa – one of 13 rescues carried out by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) over the festive period.

NSRI rescuers noticed distress flares in Jeffreys Bay being fired by two people on a jet-ski about 1.5 nautical miles off of Paradise Beach.

As a result, a father and son from Gauteng were rescued from their jet-ski‚ which had mechanical problems.

The NSRI urges the public to be cautious around all water‚ coastal and inland‚ as well as at swimming pools.
