UK lifeboatmen and police helped find a person in distress in the sea using flares.

Margate RNLI inshore lifeboat was called into action late one September night after reports of a person in distress in the sea off Westgate-on-Sea.

UK Coastguard requested the lifeboat crew to assist Kent Police who were responding to a female in distress in the sea at St Mildred’s Bay. South East Coast Ambulance Service personnel and Margate’s coastguard rescue team also responded.

Initially, the person could not be located and a search of the shoreline was carried out using searchlight and parachute illuminating flares.

The person was subsequently located by the shoreside responders at West Bay and the lifeboat returned to the station.
